The Best Spanish Gifts For Bilingual Families

The Best Spanish Gifts For Bilingual Families

Holiday season is upon us and it’s time to start thinking about gifts for those Spanish speakers in our lives!

Spanish gifts are perfect for friends learning Spanish, Spanish teachers, and Spanish speakers that you know.

As an aspiring Spanish speaker, I have received a lot of cute Spanish gifts over the years and am going to share some of them with you here today.

Spanish gifts are great for families that speak Spanish at home and also for those who are learning. Once I started on my Spanish learning journey with my daughter, my family started to buy me gifts that had Spanish print and Spanish themes.

I noticed that it helped to add more environmental print to the house and that it helped to encourage my daughter to read Spanish and feel like Spanish was something that was important enough to be displayed at home.

Here are my top gift ideas for Spanish speakers:

Amazon Echo with Alexa

I wasn’t originally interested in having an Alexa, but now that we have one, we can’t go back! Not only is Alexa great for setting timers, playing Jeopardy and listening to our Spanish playlists, but you can also configure the language settings so that she understands and responds in Spanish.

Having the Alexa in Spanish has helped add “importance” to speaking Spanish at home! -My kiddo now has to ask in Spanish if she wants Alexa to turn on her playlist haha.

She also works really well with Amazon Music, which is where we get all of our Spanish tunes. For recommendations for Spanish songs, check out this article here. Definitely compare the different models that they have and see which one might be the best.

Feliz Navidad Decor

A “Feliz Navidad” pillow was one of the first Spanish gifts that we received and it was great for adding to our seasonal décor! I love that it adds environmental print to our home and that it corresponds to the name of the holiday songs that my daughter hears in our home.

This isn’t the exact pillow that we have, but this looks similar. Adding Spanish language decorations for whatever holidays you celebrate helps to make Spanish more prominent in your home and adds value.

Spanish Mugs

I don’t drink coffee, but we have plenty of tea and hot chocolate in our home! Mugs have been a great way to add more Spanish print to our home and are useful everyday parts of our home.

I’ve been gifted “mate” (a tea enjoyed in Argentina) to go with a Spanish mug before and it makes a nice combination gift, or a gift basket staple. A mug with Spanish print  is also great for the Spanish teacher in your life.

Spanish Signs

Another source of environmental print in our home are the signs that we have. It’s nice to have word art on the walls that reflects the language that we speak at home and also our values.

Here are some examples of the wall art that we have, though these aren’t the exact ones.

Spanish Books

Reading in Spanish is an essential way to boost your Spanish skills and a great way to spend your free time. Read more about the benefits of reading aloud in Spanish here.

We have tons of children’s books in Spanish at home, as well as some books that are more for adults/young adults. Here are some of the Spanish books that I’ve been gifted over the past two years.

While these books clearly are just a reflection of my taste, any book in Spanish can be a great gift. For recommendations for other Spanish books, check out these articles:

Games In Spanish

Our family is big into board games! There are some games that we play just with the adults and some games that I play with my daughter, too.

If you have a younger child (6 and under) that is learning Spanish, I recommend checking out these Spanish board games. I have a list of the best board games for kids that are actually in Spanish or that don’t have print but have good instructions in Spanish. We’ve been using these for years to reinforce our Spanish language learning at home and really enjoy each and every one of these games!

For older kids and adults, these are some of the games in Spanish that we enjoy. All of these games have Spanish print/instructions.

Clothing with Spanish print

Everyone likes to show off Spanish gear 😊 I only have one shirt that has Spanish print, but my daughter has been gifted several different outfits with Spanish print and they’re so fun to have.

Here are ideas that are similar to the ones that we’ve enjoyed. We have also had good luck finding clothing with Spanish print at Target and Old Navy – so check there, too!

Travel Gifts

Have a traveler in your life? Someone who likes to visit South America or head to Spain with their Spanish language skills? Before having my daughter I travelled a few times to South America and travel gifts are always appreciated.

Here are some of the gifts that I’ve enjoyed and a few that I have gifted to others.

Spanish Toys

Spanish toys are a great way to engage kids in Spanish and celebrate their understanding of another language. If you’re looking for Spanish toys for babies and toddlers, I suggest reading this article which has more specific recommendations as these toys are more appropriate for older kids. All of the toys in that article have actual Spanish language and are toys that I used with my daughter and enjoyed!

My daughter really enjoys gifts that are in Spanish and has received several over the years. Here are some of our top picks!

Have fun bilingual shopping! As always, if you find another great Spanish resource, let me know about it in the comments.

Happy Learning!
